Monday, April 5, 2010 | Men's Swimming & Diving
University of Florida Gator fans can watch replays of both the men's and women's swimming and diving 2010 NCAA Championship meets this Tuesday and Wednesday, April 6 and 7. The Gator women brought home the school's second NCAA Championship Title from West Lafayette, Ind., its first since 1982, while the men recorded a fifth-place finish in Columbus, Ohio, Florida's seventh top-five finish under head coach Gregg Troy.
ESPN2 will air a 90-minute show of the 2010 women's NCAA Championships Tues., April 6, at 1:30 p.m. (ET), while the 90 minute men's NCAA Recap Show will air Wed., April 7, at 1:30 (ET) in the afternoon.
Tutoring the women to their first NCAA Championship in 28 years, Troy was named the NCAA Women's Swimming Coach of the Year, as Florida took two event titles, including the 200 free relay and the 100-yard back thanks to senior Gemma Spofforth's (West Sussex, England) efforts, and racked up 382 points to edge out Stanford (379.5) by 2.5 points for the team title.
Twelve women's swimmers and divers brought home 36 All-America honors, as Spofforth accounted for seven, while sophomores Shara Stafford (Topeka, Kan.) and Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) grabbed six and four, respectively, as the future leaders of Gator swimming.
On the men's side, junior Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill.) was named the 2010 Division I National Men's Swimmer of the Year for his championship titles in the 200 and 500-yard free races, the first NCAA swimmer to win both since 2001. Eleven Gators swam 38 All-America performances, while shattering two Florida records in the process. Dwyer, Shaune Fraser (George Town, Grand Cayman) and Brett Fraser (George Town, Grand Cayman) led the way for the Gators with seven All-America honors throughout the three-day meet, contributing both as individuals and to the team's relay efforts.
S. Fraser, a 2010 senior, ended his career donning the Orange and Blue as a 27-time All-American, the most in University of Florida history. With his seven honors in Columbus, Fraser jumped Carlos Jayme (26) and Ryan Lochte (24) in the Florida record books to go out on top.
