University of Florida attacker Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) and defender Jamie Reeg (Atlantis, Fla.) were named to the 2010 American Lacrosse Conference All-Tournament Team, announced by the league over the weekend. Cullen totaled nine goals in two tournament games, while Reeg had two goals and matched up with the opponent's top attacker in each game.
The Gators opened the tournament with a 14-3 upset win over No. 3 seed and 20th-ranked Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals. Cullen was perfect on the day, scoring six goals on six shots, equaling the school-record for most goals in a game set earlier this season by teammate Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.). Reeg scored two goals in the first half against the Blue Jays, giving her three goals on the season. She also limited Hopkins' attacker Candace Rossi to just one goal after Rossi scored five times in the first meeting between the two teams back in March. Cullen also recorded two ground balls and Reeg added one ground ball and one draw control.
In the semifinals against No. 10 Vanderbilt, Cullen added three more goals but the Gators couldn't overcome a 6-0 scoring run early in the second half and fell 16-9 to the Commodores. Cullen also had two draw controls in the game. Reeg made her 17th start of the season on defense and notched two draw controls and one caused turnover in the loss.
For the season, Cullen finished third on the team totaling 37 points on 31 goals and six assists. She also had 16 ground balls, 14 draw controls and five caused turnovers. Reeg had three goals on the season and was third on the team in ground balls (29), draw controls (18) and caused turnovers (12).
Northwestern's Katrina Dowd was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after leading the Wildcats to their sixth-straight ALC title with 13 points in two games.
Florida finished the season with a 10-8 record. Of the current 91 program's in Division I women's lacrosse, UF became just the sixth to have 10 or more win in their inaugural season. The Gators beat three ranked opponents and capped the season with an appearance in the ALC Tournament Semifinals.
