Mike Pouncey Named to 2010 Rimington Watch List
Monday, May 24, 2010 | Football
University of Florida senior football player Mike Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.) was named to the 2010 Spring Watch List for The Rimington Trophy, announced by the committee. The trophy, named after Nebraska's two-time consensus All-America center Dave Rimington, is presented annually to college football's most outstanding offensive center.
Pouncey will have a chance to keep the award in the family. His twin brother, Maurkice Pouncey, won the 2009 Rimington Trophy. Mike Pouncey has made 28-straight starts on the offensive line, primarily at guard, and will make the transition to center for the 2010 season. He was named AP Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-SEC in 2009 after helping Florida lead the SEC with 3,105 rushing yards on the season. He also earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors following the Florida State game, in which the Gators accumulated 545 yards of total offense.
The list includes 17 returning players from the 2009 Watch List. In all, there are 37 players on the Watch List. The ACC checks in with the most candidates, with six players being named. The Big-12 and PAC-10 are represented by five players each on the Watch List. Four SEC centers have been named to the list.
The winner will be honored at Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 15, 2011.

While more than a dozen All-America football teams are selected annually, the Rimington Trophy committee uses these four prestigious teams to determine a winner:
* American Football Coaches Association
* Walter Camp Foundation
* Sporting News
* Football Writers Association of America
Because the selectors of these four All-America teams can place Centers in a "mix" of offensive linemen that includes guards and tackles, their 11-man first teams can often have two Centers. Our policy is to count all players that play primarily the Center position for their respective teams as Centers, even though they maybe listed as guards or tackles on the four All American teams.
The Center with the most first team votes will be determined the winner. If there is a tie with first team votes, then the Center with most second team votes will win. If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by the Rimington Trophy committee.
