Baseball's Adams Named To CB360 Weekly Honor Roll
Monday, May 24, 2010 | Baseball
University of Florida junior second baseman Josh Adams (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named to the Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll produced by CollegeBaseball360.com on Monday.
Adams snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning as No. 4 Florida clinched its first Southeastern Conference title since 2005 with a 5-2 victory over No. 6 South Carolina before a record crowd of 8,242 fans at Carolina Stadium last Friday night.
With the contest deadlocked at 2-2, freshman Brian Johnson (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) led off with a base-hit up the middle off USC junior right-hander Sam Dyson. Sophomore Daniel Pigott (Ormond Beach, Fla.) followed with a bunt in which junior pinch runner Bryson Smith (Watkinsville, Ga.) was called safe at second and Pigott reached first. After sophomore Ben McMahan (Windermere, Fla.) had executed a sacrifice bunt to move both of his teammates into scoring position, Adams (3-for-4, three RBI) later grooved a 1-1 pitch into the gap in right center to score both Smith and Pigott and collect his second two-bagger of the night.
Adams provided the Gators with a valuable insurance run in the ninth by coming through with a two-out, two-strike RBI single into right field that brought in McMahan. McMahan had reached on a throwing error and Adams was able to drive in his third run of the game on a 0-2 count with two down to give the visitors some breathing room. He finished the series by going 3-for-5 in Saturday's finale.
Adams was part of CollegeBaseball360.com's 14th group of Primetime Performers for action from May 17-23. Auburn junior designated hitter Kevin Patterson was named the Primetime Player of the Week, while Pepperdine junior left-hander Matt Bywater was the CB360 Primetime Pitcher of the Week.
The CB360 Primetime Performer honors various players based on any/all of the following “primetime” criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):
• Must have been playing for or against a CB360 top-50 team (in the Composite National Rankings) or performed a high level in games that could be key to a team's conference/NCAA postseason qualification; made significant contribution to team's postseason positioning (single-game wins, “quality” wins, series wins, road wins, etc.).
• Involved in clutch performances, such as late game-winning hits, noteworthy comebacks, game-changing plays, team leadership, key defensive efforts, etc.
• Performed at a top level against a team rated highly nationally (or within its conference), with bonus consideration given for key performances away from home field and vs. traditional rivals.
• Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
• Any accomplishment that is rare, historic, record-setting, etc., on a national level.
