The University of Florida softball team added a fifth player to the 2010-11 class as Ashley Snedeker signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Gators next season, head coach Tim Walton announced.
"Ashley is a very good addition to our 2011 roster," Walton said. "She is dynamic and is going to provide us with some athleticism at the plate and in the field. She is a proven winner at every level and I am really excited to add her to our program."
The Bloomington, Minn., native will come to Gainesville from Yavapi College in Prescott, Ariz., where the Roughriders (53-16) finished third in the nation after falling in the NJCAA Division I Fastpitch Tournament on May 22. The infielder was second on the team with 103 hits, third with 50 RBIs and tallied a .477 batting average, a .639 slugging percentage and a .525 on-base percentage. She finished her career as a Roughrider with a .448 batting clip, 87 RBIs, 137 runs scored and was 48 of 52 on the base path.
At Jefferson High School, Snedeker was named all-conference and all-state. Her club team, the Minnesota Sting, was the 2008 Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of American national runners-up. She earned All-ACCAC First Team both years at YC and earned All-NJCAA Region I Division I First Team this season.
Snedeker, a sports management major, will join the four other Florida signees in the fall, Kasey Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.), Cheyenne Coyle (West Hills, Calif.), Chelsea Howell (Plantation, Fla.) and Hannah Rogers (Winter Haven, Fla.).
