Monday, May 3, 2010 | Softball
University of Florida junior Stephanie Brombacher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week as she earned her 25th win of the season in an 8-0 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday.
The right-hander (25-5) pitched her seventh shutout of the season, allowing only three hits and two walks while striking out four. She tallied her 14th complete game of the season while lowering her ERA to 2.08. Brombacher's 25 wins on the year is the most she has collected in her three years at Florida, which leads the SEC. She has also tallied 11 SEC wins in 2010, tied for the league's best.
Brombacher's 67 career wins is already third in UF history, as are her 26 shutouts. She has tallied 489 career strikeouts, fifth in Florida record books, while her 171 strikeouts looking are ranking third. This is the second time the All-American has earned the league's weekly honor as she was SEC Pitcher of the Week in 2009 after pitching her first career no-hitter early in the season. Brombacher recorded Florida's fourth perfect game in the history of the program in March in a five-inning, 10-0 victory over USF at home, the first since assistant coach Jenny Gladding pitched a perfect game in 2004.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday, May 5 when they host North Florida in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
