Ndu, Smith Conclude Competition at USA Championships

Florida track and field athletes Ugonna Ndu (Newark, N.J.) and Calvin Smith (Lutz, Fla.) each recorded top-six finishes in the finals of their respective events on Saturday at the USA Track and Field Championships, contested at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Ndu placed fourth overall in the women's junior 400-meter hurdles in a time of 59.94. For the second consecutive day, she charted a World Junior Championship qualifying time in the event.
Smith placed sixth overall in the finals of the men's 400-meter dash, competing against numerous professional athletes in the event. He clocked a time of 45.27 to wrap up his competition in the USA Championships.
Former Gator and Olympian Kerron Clement, who currently is tied atop the Visa Championship Series standings, advanced to the semifinal round of the men's 200-meter dash, placing 10th overall in the first round in a time of 21.22 (-1.7). The semifinals of the event are slated for 1:05 p.m. ET Sunday.
Former Gator and Olympic thrower Erin Gilreath was 15th overall in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 52.96m/173-9.
