Nine members of the University of Florida softball team were named to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. It is the seventh time at least eight Gators have earned the honor and the seventh time in the last eight years.
Senior Francesca Enea (Woodland Hills, Calif.) was named to the list for the third time in her career, while classmate Corrie Brooks (Christmas, Fla.) earned the academic accolade for the first time.
Juniors Stephanie Brombacher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Kelsey Bruder (Corona, Calif.), Megan Bush (Anaheim Hills, Calif.), Tiffany DeFelice (Coral Springs, Fla.) and redshirt sophomore Shaunice Harris (Moreno Valley, Calif.) earned the honors for the second time. Sophomores Lauren Heil (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) were named to the team for the first time after earning SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll status last season.
“This is another great honor for our team,” Head coach Tim Walton said. “We take pride in our hard work off the field as much as we do on the field. I commend our student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom and I thank our great support system in the Office of Student Life to help advise our players.”
Seventy-three University of Florida student-athletes were named to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll this week by league commissioner Mike Slive.
The 2009-10 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2009 Summer, Fall and 2010 Spring terms.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
For the 2009-10 academic year, a total of 177 UF student-athletes earned a spot on the league's academic honor roll. UF is the only SEC school to place 100 or more student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll each of the last 13 years. UF set its school record with 193 honorees in 2002-03. In the last 10 years, Florida leads the league with a total of 1,715 recipients.
