Freshman Florida distance runner Josh Izewski (Doylestown, Pa.) has penned the Cinderella story in his freshman season and, is set to participate in the men's 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Izewski, who scored at the SEC Outdoor Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000m, entered the meet as the No. 93 overall seed in the men's 10,000m run and the 48th and final qualifier in the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
Izewski, who has clocked a personal-best time of 30:08.33 this season, placed 12th at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds in a time of 30:12.18 to punch his ticket to Eugene.
Izewski is tied for the second-lowest seed of any event to advance to Eugene. Lamar's Francis Kasagule is the lowest seed to advance, entering the meet at 94th overall in the 1,500m run. Izewski (10,000m) and Notre Dame's Elise Knutzen (Javelin) both advanced after entering the meet as No. 93 seeds in their respective events.
Izewski will compete in the finals of the men's 10,000m run on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:25 p.m. ET/7:25 p.m. PT.
