All eyes were once again on the tunnel at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, but instead of watching Florida players and coaches run through the tunnel on game day, it was over 600 women who enjoyed the experience.
The women showed that football is not just a men's sport as they participated in various drills and competitions led by Florida coaches in the sixth-annual Gator Football Women's Clinic, held on June 5.
Fans ages 16 and up spent their Saturday getting an inside look at the Florida football program by touring the facility and participating in Florida football drills.
“This was my first year and it was absolutely awesome,” said Debra Krawczykiewicz, a participant in the clinic.
The women were given a tour, led by Florida football coaches, through the weight room, the locker room and the Heavener Football Trophy room.
“The facilities were amazing, they couldn't get us out of the locker room,” Krawczykiewicz said.
This year the clinic partnered with the American Cancer Society and Shands Hospital in order to raise awareness for breast cancer, the clinic had a guest speaker share the story of her battle with breast cancer.
“I am a UF alumni, I love the gators and the game, but breast cancer has tremendously affected my family,” Krawczykiewicz said.
She said the survival stories made the experience worthwhile and inspired her to be there.
Krawczykiewicz said that her favorite part was getting to run out of the tunnel.
“The coaches did a great job of what they call, 'juicing us up' and really getting our energy up,” she said.
All the women received a goodie bag, t-shirt, autographed poster and a picture with Coach Urban Meyer.
