Former Gator All-American Omar Pinzon (Bogota, Colombia) captured a gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly Sunday at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Pinzon, who earned 17 total All-America honors during his time at Florida (2006-10), finished with an official time of 1:58.99. The 2009-10 second-team All-SEC selection additionally took home medals at the 2006 competition, capturing silver in the 50, 100 and 200-meter back. He also helped his country's 800-meter FR team to a third-place finish.
Former NCAA Champion Shaune Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands) took home the bronze medal in the 100 free finals (50.26), while senior Brett Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands) and former Gator Raul Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Redshirt sophomore Rodion Davelaar (Willemstad, Netherlands Antilles) finished seventh in Heat 4 of the 100 free.
The Central American and Caribbean Games take place every four years and are the oldest regional games under the umbrella of the International Olympic Committee. The first CAC Games took place in Mexico in 1926, and since then have featured countries from Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, along with the South American countries of Surinam, Guyana, Colombia and Venezuela.
