Florida Places Six on SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll

The University of Florida finished in third in the league with six first-year members named Monday to the 2009-10 Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll by league commissioner Mike Slive. The 2010 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2009-10 academic year.

Earlier this year, Florida placed a school-record 18 on the SEC Academic Honor Roll (Tahnai Annis, Jazmyne Avant, McKenzie Barney, Brooke Chancey, Sarah Chapman, Jessica Eicken, Marsha Harper, Caitlin Howard, Lauren Hyde, Katie Kadera, Kelsey Kern, Annick McBryar, Ericka Miller, Angela Napolitano, Lindsay Thompson, Tricia Townsend, Lindsay Williams and Kathryn Williamson). Florida's total of 24 soccer student-athletes with SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition led the league in 2009-10.
To be recognized on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
The four-time defending SEC champion Gator soccer team starts the 2010 season with an Aug. 20 home match versus Miami. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium and admission is free.
