An Up and Down Day for Lendl at North & South Amateur
Saturday, July 24, 2010 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida's Isabelle Lendl overturned a two-hole deficit and won 1-up over reigning SEC Golfer of the Year, Marina Alex from Vanderbilt, giving her place in the semifinals. The golfers were all-square through six holes before Alex won holes seven and eight to go 2-up. The Gator sophomore made her move early on the back nine, taking advantage of an Alex bogey on the 10th hole to pull within one and then posted birdies on 12 and 13 to take her first lead of the match. The players matched pars the remaining five holes, putting Lendl in the semifinals.
She next took on another SEC foe—top-seeded and 2009 North and South Amateur runner-up—Cydney Clanton, a rising senior at Auburn. Lendl shot one-under par on the front nine and trailed by one at the turn. However, Clanton eventually gained control, winning the 10th, 12th and 14th holes to go 4-up. Lendl was eliminated after both players bogeyed 15, falling 4 and 3.
