Rising University of Florida sophomore gymnast Marissa King took the silver medal in Sunday's Women's British Championships' vault final, held at the Spectrum Guildford in Surrey, England.
King posted an average of 13.775 in the vault final, just behind the gold-medal average of 14.00 posted by Imogen Cairns. King, a member of Great Britain's 2008 Olympic Team, also advanced to the floor exercise final, taking eighth at 12.05. The floor title went to Danusia Francis at 14.250.
The British Championships was one of the selection events for the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the World Championships. Further evaluation will be conducted before rosters for those events are announced.
As a freshman for the Gator gymnastics team, King also advanced to the vault and floor exercise individual event finals at the 2010 NCAA Championships held in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. King took fourth in the NCAA vault final and tied for fifth in the floor competition. She earned a total of four All-America honors in 2010, tying for the most All-America honors ever by a Gator freshman (three other freshmen with four All-America honors – Amanda Castillo/2007, Betsy Hamm/1998 and Chrissy Van Fleet/1997).
