Echavarria Takes Title at Cardinal Amateur

University of Florida golfer Andres Echavarria (Medellin, Colombia) shot a final-round 65 on Sunday to win the Cardinal Amateur golf tournament in Greensboro, N.C. on Sunday.
Echavarria beat out 76 golfers, including hometown-hero Will Bowman, to take the title. Gator teammate Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) finished 12th in the contest.
“This is a big win for my momentum,” said Echavarria. “It keeps me going and keeps me working hard.”
After taking the first part of the summer off to spend time with friends and family and relax, Echavarria feels like his game is right where he left it.
“The dividends are really paying off for the work I have put in,” said Echavarria. “Hopefully, I can keep it going and continue playing well for the rest of the summer and into the fall.”
Echavarria will join Gator teammates Vongvanij and Phillip Choi (Orlando, Fla.) in the U.S. Amateur Tournament in Chambers Bay, Wash., on Aug. 23-29.
