Former University of Florida women's basketball great DeLisha Milton-Jones will begin her quest of claiming a third WNBA championship ring when she and the Los Angeles Sparks face top-seeded Seattle in the opening-round series on Wed., Aug. 25.
Game one of the three-game series will be played in Seattle, with game two being held at the STAPLES Center on Sat., Aug. 28. ESPN2 will televise both of those games. If necessary, a deciding game three will take place on Tue., Aug. 31 in Seattle.
Milton-Jones helped Los Angeles win WNBA titles in 2001 and 2002. She has started all 34 games this year for the Sparks, averaging 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
The most decorated player in Florida women's basketball history, Milton was honored as UF's first-ever recipient of The Wade Trophy, recognizing the top women's basketball player in the country. Following her stellar senior season in 1996 when she led the Gators to their first-ever NCAA Elite Eight appearance, Milton became the first-ever Florida athlete -- male or female -- to earn basketball first-team All-America honors, as she was recognized to the Kodak All-America team on March 27 (10-player team) and by the Associated Press on March 11 (five-player team). She was and still is the first Gator ever named the SEC Player of the Year, by both the coaches & media.
Milton, who was inducted into UF's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007, concluded her stellar four-year career with 1,858 points, 1,109 rebounds and a program-record 281 steals.
