This is fourth meeting between the two programs. When the two teams last met for the second match of the 2008 season, Florida used the first collegiate goal by then-freshman Tahnai Annis to claim a 2-1 OT win. In the last meeting between the two teams in Gainesville, the match was played in a heavy rainstorm and was ended after regulation at 0-0.
Florida opened its 2010 season last weekend with a pair of wins over in-state rivals. The first came when freshman Taylor Travis hit the golden goal in the 107th minute to give UF a 2-1 2OT win over Miami. Redshirt sophomore McKenzie Barney started the scoring for the match early in the second half, marking her fourth consecutive home match with a goal (dating back to 2009). Her golden goal performance earned Taylor a spot on the national CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers list for the opening week of the season.
On Sunday, a pair of second-half goals from junior Tahnai Annis gave Florida a 2-0 win at then No. 25 UCF. With her second career two-goal game, Annis earned a pair of weekly honors. She is part of the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week and also is the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Florida Atlantic opened up their season on Friday night with a 4-3 loss at Stetson University, despite outshooting Stetson by 10. The Owls are led by senior defender Janelle Blake, who was selected to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team. FAU was voted to finish ninth in the SBC in a preseason vote by league coaches.
