Thursday, August 5, 2010 | Softball
Florida softball 2010 senior third baseman Corrie Brooks (Christmas, Fla.), a 2009 and 2010 SEC All-Tournament Team selection, will join 18 other University of Florida student-athletes in commencement ceremonies this weekend on the UF campus.
Brooks, who finished her Florida career with 259 starts, 26 home runs and five career grand slams, will earn her degree from UF in Animal Science – Beef Option.
Brooks concluded her final year donning the Orange and Blue with multiple career-best performances, establishing career bests in RBI (five versus Alabama), home runs (two versus Alabama) and stolen bases (two versus Auburn) to compliment six other career highs. Brooks will leave the Gators ranked on 13 of Florida's career top-10 lists and seven top-10 single-season lists. Her five career grand slams rank second in the UF record book and her four in 2009 tied for first in the single-season record book.
Under Brooks' leadership the past four seasons, Florida has reached the Women's College World Series three times, marking the first three appearances in school history, while also helping to bring two Southeastern Conference titles back to Gainesville in 2008 and 2009. The Gators tallied the fourth-best winning percentage in the country through the duration of the 2010 season, tallying a 49-10 record (.831), while also reaching a milestone by eclipsing the 600-win mark in program history.
In addition to her accomplishments on the field, Brooks was named to the 2010 SEC Academic Honor Roll, while also reeling in academic accolades her freshman season as a member of the 2007 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.
