Friday, August 6, 2010 | Men's Swimming & Diving
Incoming freshman Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) broke a 26-year-old school record in the 400-meter individual medley Thursday on the third day of the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif. Beisel previously broke the school's all-time mark in the women's 200 IM Tuesday on the first day of competition.
The 2008 Olympian finished fourth in the finals of the 400 IM with a school-best time of 4:39.08. Beisel's personal-best finish edged out legendary Florida swimmer Tracy Caulkins' record of 4:39.24, set 26 years ago in 1984. Junior All-American Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) placed fifth in the event with a personal best of 4:41.87. Crippen's mark was fourth-fastest all-time in Florida women's history.
Senior All-American Conor Dwyer also found success on day three, completing the 50-meter freestyle in 23:24. The 27th-place time was the 10th-fastest mark in school history in the men's 50 free.
