Friday, August 6, 2010 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Kara Salamone (Cooper City, Fla.), Jenny Lago (Miami, Fla.), Jennifer Funch (Cininnati, Ohio) and Stacey Nedrud (Melbourne Beach, Fla.), along with 16 other Gator student-athletes, will participate in summer commencement ceremonies this weekend on the University of Florida campus.
Salamone, who shattered school records on all three boards her senior season, earned four All-America honors in her time at Florida (2008-10). The Cooper City, Fla., native captured the one-meter and platform titles at the 2010 SEC Championships en route to becoming the first Florida diver since 1986 to be named the 2010 SEC Women's Diver of the Year. Additionally, Salamone helped Florida rise from fourth to first on the final day of competition at the NCAA Championships, where the Gators took him their first national championship since 1982.
Funch joins Salamone as the only other Gator diver graduating this weekend. Joining Funch and Salamone is Lago, who swam at Florida from 2006-08 before becoming a manager for the team. The Miami, Fla., native was originally named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2007-08. Also graduating is Nedrud, who was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2009.
