A day before UF-Tennessee, some morning links
Friday, September 17, 2010 | Football, Scott Carter
Hey folks, we're getting close to kickoff for the Gators and Volunteers on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.
The Gators head up to Knoxville later this afternoon; I've got a early evening flight and hope to be at the hotel in Knoxville around 9 tonight.
I was born about 45 minutes from Neyland Stadium and lived in East Tennessee until I was 12 and we moved to Central Florida. I'm always amazed at how many Gator fans live in Tennessee and Tennessee fans live in Florida. That's part of what makes this rivalry so great.
Oddly enough, this will be my first game at Neyland Stadium; I've been to a few Tennessee-Florida showdowns at The Swamp, but never in hostile territory. Hope you'll check out our live blog on GatorZone.com during tomorrow's game.
Here are a few links to capture the pulse of Saturday's game:
--Gators reserve QB Trey Burton has a few of the same characteristics as some guy named Tim Tebow. Click here to read a story by the Palm Beach Post on Burton and his outlook as a freshman.
--The Gators defense is very focused on stopping the run, and that means keeping a close eye on Tauren Poole. Click here for a story by the AP.
--While the Gators hope to stop Poole, they want to clear some space for Jeff Demps and Emanuel Moody to run, which should be easier with the offensive line finally getting back together. Click here for an Orlando Sentinel story on the Gators' O-line.
--Remember Phil Fulmer? What about that Lane Kiffin character? Well, they're long gone and the new guy in Knoxville is Derek Dooley, the Vols' third coach in three years. Click here for a St. Petersburg times story looking at the job ahead for Dooley.
--Tennessee defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox's job this week has been devising a plan to stop the Gators' offense, which looks a bit different with John Brantley at quarterback instead of Tebow. Click here to read a story from the Chattanooga Times-Free Press.
--If you were at The Swamp last week for the game against USF, you know how hot it was. Well, it could be a little toasty at Neyland Stadium on Saturday according to weather.com. Click here to follow the game forecast.
