Lunchtime links day after UF-Tennessee
Sunday, September 19, 2010 | Football, Scott Carter
A lot of the chatter following the Gators' 31-17 win at Tennessee on Saturday focused on how Florida continues to win, but in a fashion that Gator fans are not used to.
Florida ran the ball 49 times on Saturday, led by Jeff Demps' 26 carries for 73 yards. The 26 carries by Demps were the most for a Gator running back in nearly six years (Ciatrick Fason in November 2004 vs. Vanderbilt).
Florida coach Urban Meyer said Saturday that the way the Gators won at Tennessee is simply the kind of team they are right now.
Here is what some of the columnists around the state said about the Gators' sixth consecutive win over Tennessee in Sunday newspapers:
--Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi says Gators are winning Urban's way. Click here to read his column.
--St. Petersburg Times columnist Gary Shelton writes that like Meyer at times, the rest of us are trying to figure out this Gators team, too. Click here to read his column.
--Gainesville Sun columnist Pat Dooley says meet your 2010 Gators. They leave smudges on their wins, but they keep winning. Click here to read his column.
--Palm Beach Post columnist Greg Stoda writes how the Gators' fake-punt call in the third quarter ingited a team still in search of its offensive identity. Click here to read his column.
--For a Tennessee perspective, click here to read Knoxville News-Sentinel columnist John Adams' take on where the Vols stack up with the Gators following Saturday's loss, Tennessee's sixth consecutive in the series.
--One of the stories getting a lot of play in Knoxville today is former Vols coach Phil Fulmer talking about the way his replacement, current USC coach Lane Kiffin, created a lot of hard feelings by leaving Tennessee on such short notice. Click here if you want to read more.
