Florida opened its 2010 season with three consecutive wins over in-state rivals Miami, UCF, and FAU, plus a win versus a first-time West coast opponent, San Diego State. This past Friday, Florida used three goals in the opening 14 minutes of the match to take a 3-0 win over Florida Atlantic. Redshirt sophomore McKenzie Barney, junior Tahnai Annis and sophomore Natalia Torosian all turned in goals versus the Owls. In Florida's 1-0 win versus San Diego State on Sunday, Barney scored the only goal of the match within the first minute of the second half. For her two goals this past weekend, Barney collected Florida's second consecutive SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor on Aug. 30.
Jacksonville is off to a 2-2 start on the season. The Dolphins opened the season with a 3-2 2OT win at Furman, then lost 3-1 at Clemson, shut out the Citadel 3-0 and lost 3-2 2OT to Charleston Southern last Sunday. Jacksonville is led by junior midfielder Jessica Hurtaldo and sophomore forward Eva Leeper, who both appear on the preseason All-Atlantic Sun team. In a preseason vote by ASC coaches, Jacksonville was selected to share fourth with Mercer.
