Women's Golf Ranked 19th in Golf World/NGCA Preseason Poll
Friday, September 3, 2010 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida women's golf team was rated 19th in the nation in the Golf World/NGCA Preseason Coaches' Poll released on September 1. All seven of the golfers on the Gator roster returned from a year ago and the composition of the roster is a blend of youth and experience. Two-time First Team All-SEC selection Jessica Yadloczky is the lone senior on the club and there are no incoming freshmen. Juniors Evan Jensen, Andrea Watts and Marika Lendl return along with sophomores Isabelle Lendl, Megan Pak and Mia Piccio.
“Rankings don't mean a lot until the end of the year,” Florida Head Coach Jan Dowling said. “We're going to work hard to be ranked a lot higher and we have the potential to be ranked much higher than that. We're looking forward to this season and proving to ourselves what we can be.”
The Gators received 265 points and are one of eight SEC teams ranked in the top 25. Southern California was the top-ranked team and Pac-10 nemesis UCLA will begin the season second. Rounding out the top five are defending champion Purdue, Alabama and Duke.
Florida opens up the fall season on Monday, September 6 with the Labor Day Shootout at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., home of the PGA TOUR's THE PLAYERS Championship. The one-day event will have UF competing against Campbell, Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville, Kent State and South Carolina-Upstate.
