The University of Florida gymnastics team celebrated their 2010 Southeastern Conference championship with the Gator Gymnastics Gang (GGG) at a dinner held Tuesday evening in the Champions Club level at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The 2010 team members received their championship rings at the conclusion of the dinner.
Florida used the highest team apparatus totals of the evening on their final three events (uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise) to claim the 2010 SEC title on the evening of March 27 in Jacksonville's Veterans Memorial Arena. The title was the seventh overall title for UF and second since 2007.
Florida placed three on 2010 All-SEC Teams – Ashan?e Dickerson (first team), Marissa King (second team) and Maranda Smith (second team). Dickerson was the SEC Freshman of the Year, becoming the fourth Gator to win the award (Amanda Castillo 2007; Orley Szmuch 2002; Betsy Hamm 1998). Dickerson and King also made up the Freshman All-SEC team. In addition, UF's Rhonda Faehn shared the SEC Coach of the Year award with Alabama's Sarah Patterson.
The Gator gymnastics team opens the 2011 season with a Jan. 7 home meet versus Nebraska.
