
Vongvanij Finishes in Second at New Year's Invitational

Florida senior Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) finished in second place in the New Year's Invitational in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Sunday. His final score of 281 was just one stroke behind winner Brandon Hagy, a redshirt freshman from the University of California.
Vongvanij shot a 71, 68, 72 and 70 in the four-day tournament. In the fourth round, he was one stroke ahead going into the 18th hole, but Hagy made eagle to finish on top. It was the first time an eagle on the final hole won the tournament.
Florida junior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) also recorded a top-10 finish with a tie for fourth place and freshman Santiago Gavino (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) finished tied for 84th.
The Gator Men's Golf Season opens with the Jacksonville Invitational on Feb. 1 and 2 in Jacksonville, Fla.
