Game Notes: Florida at No. 24 Auburn
Wednesday, October 12, 2011 | Football
The Florida Gators (4-2, 2-2 SEC) will be on the road for the second straight week, this time traveling to Auburn, Ala., to Face the Auburn Tigers (4-2, 2-1 SEC). The Gators are coming off a 41-11 loss at No. 1 LSU. The Tigers lost at No. 10 Arkansas, 38-14.
Florida will have its work cut out on the road against the Tigers, as UF has an 8-25-1 record when visiting Auburn. The last time the Gators beat the home team in Jordan-Hare Stadium was in 1999, when No. 7 Florida beat Auburn, 32-14. Overall, the Tigers lead the series, 42-38-2.
Fortunately for Florida, their new head coach has seen a good amount of success in Jordan-Hare Stadium. In two seasons as a graduate assistant at Auburn (1995-96), Will Muschamp and the Tigers posted an 11-3 home record. As the defensive coordinator at Auburn for the 2006-07 seasons, Muschamp was part of a team that posted a 12-4 home record.
Although this is the first time that Muschamp will be facing the Tigers as a head coach, he has faced them four previous times while coaching at LSU. In those four meetings, LSU had a 2-2 record (0-2 in Auburn).
For the third week in a row, the Gators will be facing a ranked opponent. UF lost to No. 3 Alabama, 38-10, at home to open the October schedule then suffered a 41-11 loss to No. 1 LSU in Baton Rouge.
Florida has a history of playing tough schedules. The Gators are one of two teams in the country (Arkansas) to have a top-10 strength of schedule for of the last five seasons (2006, '07, '08, '09).
