Gator Gymnasts Assist at Saturday's Eighth Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Head Coach Rhonda Faehn and the Gator gymnastics team helped out at the Eighth Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk event Saturday morning in downtown Gainesville.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® (Making Strides) is an annual noncompetitive walk to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. Funds raised support American Cancer Society breast cancer research, education, advocacy and patient service programs. Saturday's 5K walk included people of ages.
Before the walk, the Gators chatted with the gathering crowd to let them know about the team's 2012 breast cancer awareness meet, set for Feb. 12 in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The Gator gymnasts congratulated the participants as they finished the race, bestowed medals to breast cancer survivors and handed out cool drinks.
“It is absolutely wonderful to once again be a part of this event. What an incredible turnout - this event has grown tremendously each year. We love coming downtown and helping with the effort to raise awareness about the fight against breast cancer,” Faehn said. “We love also to get the word out about our Gators Link to Pink event on Feb. 10. All breast cancer survivors are invited to the event. We would love to see the O'Connell Center in a sea of pink for the meet.”
During the upcoming 2012 season, the Florida gymnasts will again host their Gators Link to Pink breast cancer awareness meet. The Feb. 10 dual meet with LSU is the Gators Link to Pink meet, an evening when all teams put aside their school colors and wear pink leotards to bring awareness to the fight against breast cancer.
