University of Florida athletic venues were the spots to see smiles Saturday morning as Gator student-athletes played a variety of games with cancer-stricken children.
The sixth annual Brandon Ling Memorial Sports Camp took place Saturday morning with the help of approximately 130 UF student-athletes, including many members of the Gator soccer team. The student-athletes played games and competed with cancer-stricken kids and their siblings in football, basketball, soccer, volleyball and cheerleading.
Ron Farb organizes the event each year through his Climb for Cancer Foundation, which raises money to help the families of children with cancer. Almost 90 children ages 7 to 18 participated in Saturday's camp.
Senior soccer player Sarah Chapman said the sports camp is something the Gators look forward to each year.
“I loved it. Our team really enjoys it as well. Giving back is always fun for us, especially when it is with the kids,” Chapman said. “They definitely give us inspiration. These kids are going through a lot . If we can put a smile on their face just for a morning, then we love it. We have a lot of fun teaching them the game we love to play.”
The No. 13 Florida soccer team will be back at James G. Pressly Stadium Sunday afternoon when it plays host to LSU for its Senior Day. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
