Friday, October 28, 2011 | Men's Basketball
The Gator men's basketball team is ranked No. 8 in the preseason Associated Press Poll released on Friday.
Florida has been in the AP preseason top 10 eight times previously, including last year, when UF was ranked ninth heading into the season before ultimately reaching the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. The Gators are also ranked 10th in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll, marking the sixth time the team has been preseason top 10 in both polls (also in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006).
Florida kicks off its season with an exhibition game at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center against Catholic University at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3. The Catholic squad features sophomore guard Billy Donovan, the son of Florida head coach Billy Donovan.
UF then opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 11, hosting Jackson State at 7 p.m. in the second half of a doubleheader with the women's team, which takes on Michigan at 4:30 p.m. Log on to www.gatorzone.com/tickets or call the Gator Ticket Office 352-375-4683 or 800-34-GATOR (42867).
