
Sturgis Named a Semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award

University of Florida redshirt junior kicker Caleb Sturgis (St. Augustine, Fla.) has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2011 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, the Palm Beach Country Sports Commission announced today.
Sturgis is having an impressive season for the Orange and Blue having gone 15-for-16 on field goal attempts for the season, with a long of 51 yards. His 2.14 field goals made per game is tied for the highest total in the nation. Additionally, Sturgis has connected on all 19 of his extra point opportunities and is averaging 66.3 yards per kickoff with eight touchbacks.
Semi-finalists will be voted on by FBS Head Coaches and SIDs, along with national and regional football writers, past Groza winners and others who will select the three (3) finalists. These finalists will be honored at the 20th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Banquet on December 6 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The presentation will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday December 8, 2011.
