Site of Florida-Georgia game holds special memories for Weis

Gators offensive coordinator Charlie Weis is participating in his first Florida-Georgia game today.
Weis has no ties to the fierce rivalry other than as a casual observer over the years.
However, he has very fond memories of the site of today's game.

Weis' final game as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots was Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville in what was then known as Alltel Stadium. New England defeated Philadelphia 24-21 and soon afterward Weis was named head coach at Notre Dame.
The win over the Eagles earned Weis his fourth Super Bowl ring – one with the New York Giants and three with the Patriots. New England became only the second team – Dallas did it from 1992-95 – to win three Super Bowls in a four-year span.
Weis has not been back to EverBank Field -- that is the stadium's current name – since that memorable win over the Eagles nearly seven years ago.
“When I was on the road recruiting I was at a high school that's looking across the river at that stadium,'' he said. “I actually did a little reminiscing at that time where I thought about that stadium. That was a good day.
“I'd like to have another good day. That day is history.''
