University of Florida head coach Amanda Butler addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators' All-Sports Media Day.
The Gators held a closed scrimmage last weekend and Butler said it was a good indicator to see where the team is and what it needs to improve before officially starting the season. In practices so far, Butler said she has seen great performances, good consistency and some nice surprises, along with players battling for minutes and everyone wanting to be important.
Butler said that sophomore Kayla Lewis (Decatur, Ga.) is expected to make a bigger impact with a year under her belt and she gives the Gators more depth, versatility and makes them harder to guard.
Senior Jordan Jones (Suwanee, Ga.) has also improved ever since she first stepped on campus and continues to see things differently as she grows into being a leader. Butler added that Jones will be very important to the success of the team and not just because of her long-range shooting ability.
The Gators continue practicing in preparation for their 2011-12 season opener, when the team plays host to Michigan on November 11 in the O'Connell Center. It will be the first game of a UF basketball doubleheader and tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
