Auburn used a late goal by Jordan Miller to hand Florida a 1-0 defeat for its only loss of 2010 Southeastern Conference play. UF took the 2010 SEC regular-season title with a 9-1-1 record.
Last weekend, the Gators posted a pair of shutout wins versus SEC Eastern Division opponents. The Gators claimed a 2-0 win Friday over Vanderbilt off first-half goals by a pair of juniors - Erika Tymrak and Holly King. On Sunday, Florida provided all the scoring for the match in the second half, taking a 3-0 win over Kentucky. McKenzie Barney scored first in the 57th minute with freshman Annie Speese scoring Florida's final two goals for her second double-goal match of the season and second of the last six matches.
Friday's goal pushed Tymrak's team-high season goals total to nine, with all coming in UF's last 11 matches. She shares the SEC season goals lead with three sophomores – Georgia's Alexa Newfield, Mississippi's Rafaelle Souza and Tennessee's Caroline Brown. Speese is second among the Gators with five goals and was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 3. After the pair of shutout wins, junior All-American center back Kathryn Williamson was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week and the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Florida's crowds – 2,541 versus Vanderbilt and 2,271 versus Kentucky – were the nation's top draws of the weekend. UF is No. 3 with its season average of 2,834 fans per match.
Auburn owns a 9-2-1 record, losing its season-opener versus current No. 5 Wake Forest and at Mississippi State on Oct. 2. The Tigers posted an impressive 4-0 win over current No. 4 Duke on Sept. 2. Senior Katy Frierson, who joined Florida's Erika Tymrak on the U.S. Under-23 National Team for three matches in Sweden in June, leads the Tigers with 15 points off of three goals and a league-leading nine assists. AU redshirt freshman Ali Elliott is the younger sister of three-time All-SEC first-team performer Ashlee Elliott, who finished her Gator career in 2010.
