
Gator Soccer's Brooke Thigpen named to SEC Community Service Team

Junior midfielder Brooke Thigpen has been named to this year's Southeastern Conference Soccer Community Service Team, the league announced Tuesday.

The SEC has service teams for all 20 of its league-sponsored sports. The team highlights an athlete from each school sport who gives back to the community through superior service efforts.
Since the fall of 2010, Thigpen has volunteered more than 30 service hours and participated in 16 different Goodwill Gator activities. The Jacksonville native, who aspires to go to medical school, has made several visits to the pediatric ward at Shands at the University of Florida to meet and talk with young patients and help create art projects.
Among her other Goodwill Gator activities, Thigpen has volunteered at local charity runs such as the Not By Sight 5K and Run 5 to Keep Kids Alive, as well as KACB's Great American Cleanup and the Restore Campus Cleanup. She and her teammates also participated in the 2010 and 2011 Climb for Cancer events, a morning when Gator student-athletes join children who have cancer to play various sports.
Up next for the Gator soccer team is a match versus UCF on Friday, Nov. 18 for NCAA Championship Second Round action. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium.
