Erving Walker Named a Candidate for the 2011 Senior CLASS Award
Friday, November 4, 2011 | Men's Basketball
University of Florida men's basketball senior guard Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been named a candidate for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, Lowe's and Premier Sports Management announced today.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.
Walker, who is one of 30 candidates for the prestigious award, is one of the unquestioned leaders of the Gators team. Last season, Walker led the Gators' Elite Eight squad in points (14.6 ppg) and steals (41), while ranking second in assists (125). Through his three seasons in Gainesville, Walker has amassed 1,330 points and 377 assists. The 377 assists rank Walker ninth in the Gators' all-time record book, while the 1,330 points ranks 24th.
While Walker has shined on the court during his time in the Orange and Blue, he has also been the definition of a student-athlete. Walker is on track to graduate and earn his degree in Sports Administration in the spring of 2012 and also takes time to give back to the community.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
