Burleigh Evaluated SEC Tournament, Previewed NCAA Championship Possibilities
Monday, November 7, 2011 | Soccer
University of Florida head coach Becky Burleigh addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators' All-Sports Media Day.
Last week, the Gators advanced to the SEC Tournament championship game, after defeating Georgia (2-0) and Alabama (2-1), before falling to Auburn (3-2). Burleigh said that the Gators came out in the Georgia and Alabama games with a greater physical presence and were more direct which helped them. In the championship game, Auburn had goals on good opportunities and the Gators did not have the same dominant physical presence that they had in their other SEC Tournament games which hurt them.
Florida (16-7, 7-4) learns its postseason fate this afternoon at 4:30 p.m., when the NCAA Championship field is announced at www.ncaa.com. The Gators have appeared in the NCAA field in 14 of the previous 16 tournaments, winning the title in 1998.
