Florida Gymnasts No. 3 in 2012 GymInfo Preseason Poll

The University of Florida gymnastics team enters the 2012 season ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll released by GymInfo this morning. This is the sixth consecutive year Florida appears among the top four teams in the preseason poll (2007: 3rd; 2008: 2nd, 2009: 3rd; 2010: 4th, 2011: 3rd). Florida has ranked among the preseason top 10 each year since the poll's inception in 1992.
The last two NCAA champions hold the top two spots in 2012 preseason list. UCLA, the 2010 NCAA team champion, holds the No. 1 spot in the 2012 poll while defending champion Alabama is No. 2. Rounding out the preseason top five are No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 5 Utah.
Eight opponents Florida will face in 2012 dual meet action appear in the poll, including four in the preseason top 10. Four of Florida's home dates feature an opponent among the preseason top 12 – No. 5 Utah on March 16, No. 9 Georgia on Feb. 24, No. 11 Arkansas on Jan. 27 and No. 12 LSU on Feb. 10 for the Gators Link to Pink meet.
In 2011, the Gator gymnastics team took seventh in the NCAA Championships. Florida returns four gymnasts in 2012 who own a total of nine All-America honors, including 2011 NCAA vault champion Marissa King. The Gators also return 2011 Southeastern Conference floor exercise champion Ashan?e Dickerson and 2011 SEC Freshman of the Year Alaina Johnson.
