Two Gator All-Americans – Alicia Goodwin and Maranda Smith – receive degrees this weekend. University of Florida fall commencement ceremonies will take place Friday, Dec. 16 through Saturday, Dec. 17, according to college assignment.
Goodwin twice earned All-America honors for the uneven bars. She advanced to the NCAA Individual Event bar final in 2009, tying for third overall with a 9.90. Last season at the Southeastern Conference Championships, Goodwin anchored the Gator lineup with a collegiate-best mark of 9.90, earning her a spot on the All-SEC team. A four-time member of the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Scholastic All-America team, Goodwin will receive her sports management degree on Saturday.
This will be Smith's second time to walk across the Stephen C. O'Connell stage to receive a degree, this time to receive her master's in health education and behavior. She earned her bachelor's degree in anthropology in May of 2010. A five-time All-American for the Gators, Smith finished her career last April by sharing the runner-up spot in the NCAA Individual Event floor exercise final. She also earned a spot on both the 2010 and 2011 All-SEC teams. Smith picked up NACGC Scholastic All-America team honors in 2011.
Both Goodwin and Smith appeared on the SEC Academic Honor Roll each season they were eligible for the award during their Gator careers.
