The Gators just finished a busy two-meet weekend, with a dual meet at home in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on Friday and a quad meet in Morgantown, W. Va., on Sunday. Florida claimed wins in both meets, with a 196.85-194.95 home result against Auburn and earned a 196.875 against West Virginia, New Hampshire and George Washington. Florida's scores last weekend rank 11th and 12th in the nation, as Florida owns six of the top 12 scores of 2011.
In the last home meet of the season on Friday, All-American seniors Maranda Smith and Alicia Goodwin were honored for Senior Night. Smith collected her first floor title of the season with a 9.90. Sophomore Marissa King earned her first vault title with a collegiate-best mark of 9.95. Freshman Mackenzie Caquatto was first on the uneven bars (9.90) and shared first on the balance beam (9.875) with teammate Ashan?e Dickerson and Auburn's Kylie Shields. Friday's meet was the first for UF since 2007 that the Gators did not enter a gymnast in the all-around competition.
In Sunday's quad meet, the Gators took the top spots in three of the day's events. Caquatto nabbed her second consecutive wins on bars (9.925) and beam (9.975). Her near-perfect mark on beam makes her the fourth Gator to earn a 9.975 this season, joining Dickerson (beam), Alaina Johnson (bars) and King (floor). Dickerson and King shared the WVU quad floor exercise title at 9.875.
The last time the Gators were in the Barnhill Arena for the 2009 dual meet, Arkansas beat Florida for the first time in the series. The Razorbacks opened February with their first win ever over Georgia (195.775-195.40) but dropped a narrow 195.10-195.025 decision to BYU last Friday in Barnhill Arena. Junior Jaime Pisani has competed as an all-arounder in every meet this season and posted Arkansas' season-high total of 39.425 on Jan. 28.
Live stats will be posted on GatorZone.com and the meet is also available to GatorVision subscribers. The meet airs tape-delayed on March 3 at 9 p.m. ET on CSS (channel 259 on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable).
