UF Baseball's Hudson Randall Named To CB360 Weekly Honor Roll
Tuesday, March 8, 2011 | Baseball
University of Florida sophomore pitcher Hudson Randall (Atlanta, Ga.) was named to the Primetime Performer Weekly Honor Roll produced by CollegeBaseball360.com on Tuesday.
Last Saturday, the right-hander combined with junior reliever Anthony DeSclafani (Freehold, N.J.) for rare one-hitter in a 1-0 win over No. 24 Miami, with the top-ranked Gators going on to sweep the rivalry series. Randall led the way for Florida's first shutout of the Hurricanes since 2004, UF's first shutout of Miami in Gainesville since 1994 and only Florida's seventh shutout in the 226-game history of the series.
He allowed only two base-runners (hit & hit batter) in his 7.0 innings, surviving a pitcher's duel with E.J. Encinosa while facing 23 batters, two above the minimum. Fifteen of Randall's 21 outs came via groundouts (10) and strikeouts (5) in the 86-pitch outing. The righty set down the first seven batters of the game before plunking Dale Carey, who stole second before Randall induced a fly-out from Zeke DeVoss. He then retired the next eight batters before Carey's leadoff single in the sixth (the runner advanced on a sacrifice bunt and groundout, but Shane Rowland's tapper back to the mound preserved the shutout).
Over three starts, Randall (1-0) has compiled a 1.00 earned run average with 15 walks and zero walks this season in 18.0 innings. Opponents are hitting .188 against him.
