One of the biggest sports stories for the Gators over the weekend was the men's golf team winning the SEC title for the first time since the 2003 season.
The Gators won the team title and fifth-year senior Andres Echavarria won the individual crown as three Gators finished in the top five. Phillip Choi placed third and senior Bank Vongvanij was fifth.
Overall, it was Florida's 15th SEC title in men's golf, but that's just a part of the story. The title was UF's 200th SEC crown across all sports. That got us to thinking how Florida stacks up against the rest of the league in winning conference crowns.
Well, Rachel George of the Orlando Sentinel had a chart recently that showed how the schools stacked up.
As Florida won the men's golf title, Auburn claimed its 70th SEC title over the weekend when its women's golf team claimed the league crown. The SEC champions for baseball, softball, men's and women's outdoor track.
I expected UF to be at the top of the list, but I was surprised to see the gap between first and second.
Here is the list with updated league crowns for the 12 SEC schools after the weekend: 1. Florida, 200; 2. Tennessee, 150; 3. Georgia, 134; 4. LSU, 119; 5. Alabama, 76; 6. Arkansas, 74; 7. Auburn, 70; 8. Kentucky, 65; 9. Mississippi State, 28; 10. Ole Miss, 20; 11. Vanderbilt, 10; 12. South Carolina, 8.
Note: Arkansas and South Carolina joined the league in 1991.
