Gators Head To Pair of Prestigious Meets

The University of Florida track and field teams will send split squads to a pair of prestigious meets this weekend, as the Gators venture to the prestigious 117th Penn Relays Carnival and the Drake Relays in preparation for the upcoming championship season. The team's throwers will head to Drake, while the remainder of the squad travels to Penn.
The Penn Relays take place Thursday through Saturday at historic Franklin Field, while the Drake Relays take place Friday and Saturday at Drake Stadium. Results for the Penn Relays can be found at www.thepennrelays.com and for the Drake Relays at www.deltatiming.com.
The Florida men enter the meet as the No. 4-ranked team in the country, while the Gator women are unranked.
“We're looking forward to this weekend,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “Penn Relays is something I think everyone should get the opportunity to experience. It's truly a relay carnival, and it is a great competition. It gives us the chance to go out and compare ourselves against some of the better relay teams in the country. In terms of the throwers going to Des Moines, Coach [Steve] Lemke is very excited about how they have been progressing. There will be a lot of the top throwers in the country going to Drake so that they can get a feel for the situation for the NCAA Championships.”
The team's dynamic relays will be a focus for the Gator sprinters this weekend, as Florida will compete in the men's 4x100m, the women's 4x100m, the men's 4x200m, the men's and women's sprint medley relays, the women's 4x400-meter relay and the men's shuttle hurdle relays.
