GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Four University of Florida swimmers (three men, one woman) will be among a total of 32 Gator student-athletes who will be earning their degrees in commencement ceremonies being held this weekend throughout the day at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the UF campus.
Roberto Gomez (Weston, Fla.), Roland Rudolf (Budapest, Hungary) and Michael Yuan (Winter Springs, Fla.) make up the men graduating, while 2010 NCAA Champion Stephanie Napier (Chattanooga, Tenn.) is the lone woman receiving her degree this weekend.
Gomez and Rudolf graduate with a combined 13 All-America honors. Gomez, a 2008 Olympian for Venezuela, picked up All-America honors in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays at the 2009 and 2010 NCAA Championships. Rudolf, a 2004 and 2008 Olympian for his native Hungary, earned nine All-America honors during his tenure in Gainesville. Additionally, Rudolf was named the 2007 SEC Freshman Swimmer of the Year after leading the Gators to the 2007 SEC title in the 800 free relay.
This past March, Yuan received a scholarship from the SEC valued at $7,500 as UF's male nominee for the Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship. A 2010-11 team captain, Yuan was recently accepted into dental school at Florida.
Napier, regarded as one of the best sprinters in UF women's history, graduates after helping lead the Gator women to the 2010 NCAA Championship, their first in 28 years. Individually, Napier captured eight All-America honors and was a nine-time All-SEC selection. In relay competition, Napier picked up her only national championship title as part of the UF's 2010 NCAA Championship 200 free relay squad.
