Harrell In Ninth After Day One of Texas Relays

Freshman Florida multi-event athlete Brittany Harrell (McComb, Miss.) currently stands in ninth place in the women's heptathlon after the opening day of the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays contested at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Freshman Florida multi-event athlete Brittany Harrell (McComb, Miss.) currently stands in ninth place in the women's heptathlon after the opening day of the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays contested at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. Wednesday was a windy day in Austin, with wind-readings ranging anywhere from 3-5 meters per second.

Harrell, who is competing in her first collegiate hepathlon, will conclude the final three events on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Live results will be available at http://www.texassports.com/livestats/tex-relays/. Harrell currently is in contention to make Florida's all-time top-five heptathlon list.

West Virginia's Chelsea Carrier is currently in the lead through four events with a score of 3,670, while Kansas State's Ryann Krais is second with 3,452 points. Harrell is currently in ninth place with a score of 3,112, which is 558 points off the lead.

Harrell opened the day with an 11th-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.50 (+3.6) before tying for 10th in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.67m/5-5.75, a mark that is just outside Florida's all-time top-10 in the high jump.

Harrell posted a throw of 10.72m/35-2 to place 14th in the women's shot put, before concluding the day with a 13th-place finish in the women's 200-meter dash at 25.88 (+4.7)
