Tuesday, May 31, 2011 | Baseball, Soccer, Softball, Scott Carter
The final day of May is upon us and both the UF baseball team and softball team are still alive in the postseason.
The softball team has arrived in Oklahoma City for the Women's College World Series and the baseball team opens its quest to reach the CWS in Omaha next month by hosting a regional event this weekend.
Here are a few GatorLinks covering UF sports on this Tuesday:
--The Gators not only won the SEC Tournament title for the first time since 1991 on Sunday, but pitcher/DH Brian Johnson was also feeling much better. Click here for a story on Johnson from Florida Today.
--The Gators baseball team hosts a regional that includes Manhattan, Jacksonville and Miami. Hurricanes coach Jim Morris was in the hospital when the Hurricanes visited the Gators earlier this season and after the pairings were announced Monday, Morris didn't sound too excited about another chance to visit Gainesville. Click here for a story from The Miami Herald.
--The UF softball team's trip to the WCWS features Michelle Moultrie at the top of the lineup, a player head coach Tim Walton has come to admire. Click here for a story by Gator Country.
--Five burning questions for the WCWS from ESPN.com. One focuses on how far Florida's hitting can carry the Gators? Click here to read story.
--The UF men's golf team is in Oklahoma this week competing in the NCAA Championships. Click here for a story in The Gainesville Sun.
--With Jim Tressel out at Ohio State and Ohio native Urban Meyer working at ESPN, speculation about Meyer's future peaked once again Monday when news broke that Tressel was resigning. There will probably be about 3 million more stories touching on the former Gators coach's future by the end of summer. Here is one of the first from ESPN.com blogger Ed Aschoff.
--The Gators men's and women's track teams will be well-represented at NCAA Finals later in Des Moines, Iowa, later this month. Click here for a story from the Independent Florida Alligator.
