Former Florida Gator Vernon Macklin was selected 52nd overall by the Detroit Pistons in Thursday's NBA Draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
He is the 33rd all-time Florida player taken in the NBA Draft and the 15th Gator selected during the tenure of head coach Billy Donovan. With the selection of Macklin and Chandler Parsons (Houston Rockets, 38th overall) on Thursday, the Gators have had multiple selections in a single draft for the fourth time (1984, 2000 and 2007).
Macklin, who played two seasons for the Gators, ranks third all-time at UF in field goal percentage (minimum 500 attempts), converting 59.9 percent of his shots in the Orange and Blue (347-of-549).
Parsons and Macklin are the first Gators ever drafted by the Rockets and the Pistons, respectively.
