T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.), a two-time All-Pac-10 honoree at USC, has joined the University of Florida men's golf team, head coach Buddy Alexander announced today. Vogel will be eligible to compete for the Gators in the 2011-12 season.
“We're ecstatic to have T.J. Vogel join our program,” said Alexander. “We recruited him when he was coming out of high school and we're glad we got a second chance with him. He's a dynamite player and an even better kid.”
The Cooper City, Fla. native joins the Gators after a successful two-year stint at USC. Last season with the Trojans, Vogel recorded a pair of top-five finishes and ranked as high as seventh nationally in the Golfweek men's collegiate individual rankings.
During his freshman season in Los Angeles, Vogel was one of the top freshmen in the nation, earning NGCA Freshman All-American, NCAA West Region and All-Pac-10 first team honors as well as a nod as the Pac-10 co-Freshman of the Year. Additionally, Vogel lead the Trojans in stroke average (72.12) and posted three top-10 finishes on the season.
Vogel joined the Trojans after a highly decorated high school and junior career, highlighted by victories in two of the nation's top junior events, the Junior PGA Championship and the Rolex Tournament of Champions.
