Gator Growl 2011 Brings in Goo Goo Dolls, Fireworks Show and A New Stage Plan
Thursday, July 21, 2011 | General
The Gator Nation asked, and Gator Growl 2011 answered. After student and alumni survey results showed extreme interest in bringing back a fireworks show and a musical act, the 2011 Gator Growl staff pulled a few strings and a few all-nighters to make this happen.
Gator Growl 2011 is making many changes this year in order to accomplish their goals and live up to past expectations. After a year with no musical act in 2010, Goo Goo Dolls will perform at this year's Gator Growl event as the headlining act. Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band that have been nominated for four Grammy Awards, had 14 top-10 singles and have sold nearly nine million albums in the United States alone.
In addition, the traditional fireworks show had always been a crowd-pleaser and a perfect finishing touch, however, the last time UF saw the illuminations was in 2007. Finally, Gainesville skies will light up once again.
Another change this year will include the location and set up of the main stage. Ever since the first Growl show in 1923, the stage has either been located in the north or south endzone, however, this year it will be located in the student section on the east side of the stadium.
With all the major changes to expect this year, Gator Growl will be louder than ever. Gator Growl 2011 will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. This year's event will mark Gator Growl's 88th show since its origination in 1923. For more information, check out www.gatorgrowl.org.
