Recent Florida graduates Bank Vongvanij (Bradenton, Fla.) and Andres Echavarria (Medellin, Columbia) have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced this week.
Vongvanij, who is currently competing in the Nationwide Tour's Children's Hospital Invitational, is coming off an impressive senior season where he recorded three medalist honors, and four top-five finishes. The 2011 SEC Player of the Year finished his final season with the third-highest single-season stroke average (70.9) mark in Florida history.
Echavarria earned two medalist honors, including the SEC Individual Champion title during his senior campaign. He recorded eight top-20 finishes in nine tournaments and ranks 11th on the career-stroke average list with 73.19 in 86 rounds.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA.
